When It’s Required
Load testing ensures that lifting equipment performs to the required standard. It is required before equipment is first put into service. In addition, testing is necessary if issues arise during inspection or when equipment is relocated.
According to the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Regulations 2007, testing is required in the following situations:
- After any substantial alteration or repair affecting strength or stability
- Fixed lifting equipment before first use
- Tower cranes after each assembly
- Mobile cranes every 4 years
- Winches every 4 years
- Lifting equipment support structures (jibs, beams, monorails, anchor points) before first use
